The windows on the front façade of the New York Yacht Club’s Clubhouse on West 44th Street have been restored to current day standards. This stately Beaux-Arts style building opened in 1901 originally had wood windows with monolithic glass. The new glass is 7mm laminated, providing better sound control and resistance to ultraviolet radiation.
Traditional Line Architectural Restoration was responsible for the installation restoration of the window frames. Since 1984, this company has focused on restoration and conservation, especially around wood. This made them an excellent match for the New York Yacht Club’s project.
Bent Glass Design
To get the glass fabrication process started, Traditional Line sent original bent panels to Bent Glass Design to use as templates. Fifteen small molds were made to produce forty-five bent laminated glass panels. In addition, 153 flat laminated glass panels were also supplied.
Besides acoustical and ultraviolet screening benefits, the laminated glass offers improved safety and security from manmade and natural threats while maintaining the original appearance of this iconic building.
At Bent Glass Design, we specialize in laminated glass design for several different applications. If you’re looking to work with laminated glass, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Contact Bent Glass Design at 215-441-9101 today or visit us online for more information!
